Description
An old-fashioned apple dessert with a sweet cinnamon crumb topping, perfect for serving warm.
Ingredients

4 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
¾ cup all purpose flour
½ cup granulated white sugar
½ cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
pinch of salt
½ cup chilled salted butter, cut into chunks
vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375℉. Spray a 9-inch pie plate with nonstick spray or rub with butter.
- Add the apples to the pie plate and sprinkle the lemon juice evenly over them.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
- Use a pastry blender or two knives to cut the chilled butter into the flour mixture until the consistency of coarse crumbs is reached.
- Sprinkle the flour mixture evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Cover the top of the dessert with a piece of foil to avoid excessive browning, and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.
Notes
Great served with vanilla ice cream!
