Description
A simple and delicious pear butter recipe made in a crock pot, perfect for spreading on toast, muffins, or using as a fruit dip.
Ingredients
Scale
5 pounds bartlett pears
¾ cup brown sugar
1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 large strip of orange peel
Instructions
- Step 1: Wash, core, and slice the pears. Do not peel them, but do remove any brown spots or blemishes.
- Step 2: Place the prepared pears into the slow cooker. Add the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg, then toss to coat. Place the large strip of orange peel on top.
- Step 3: Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 6 hours. The pears are done when they mash easily with a fork.
- Step 4: Remove the orange peel. Use an immersion blender to puree the pears in the slow cooker, or transfer the mixture to a blender and puree until smooth. Keep the slow cooker on high with the lid on while blending to maintain heat.
- Step 5: Taste the blended pear butter and add more sugar if you prefer it sweeter.
- Step 6: Return the pureed pear butter to the slow cooker and cook for one additional hour on high with the lid off to thicken.
- Step 7: Transfer the pear butter into clean jars, seal with lids, and refrigerate until cooled.
