Description

Bright lemon flavor, sweet cherries, and rich cream cheese come together in this easy-to-love dessert. It’s buttery, creamy, and perfectly sweet, with all the flavor of a homemade treat and none of the fuss.

For the Fruit Layers:
1 can (21 oz) lemon pie filling
1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
For the Cream Cheese Layer:
12 oz cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Cake Topping:
1 box yellow cake mix
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Powdered sugar, for dusting


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the lemon pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Spoon the cherry pie filling over the lemon layer, then use a knife to gently swirl the two fillings together.
  4. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the fruit layers. Do not mix it in.
  6. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly across the entire surface, making sure to cover the layers below. Do not stir.
  7. Slowly and evenly drizzle the melted butter over the dry cake mix, covering as much of the surface as possible.
  8. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the top is deep golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool and rest for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
  10. Dust lightly with powdered sugar just before serving.

Notes

The center of the cake will still look slightly gooey when it’s done baking; this is normal.

Allowing the cake to rest is important for it to set properly.
