Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup red bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 pound spaghetti, cooked in salted water
  • 1 cup reserved pasta water
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned.
  4. Drain any excess grease.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Cajun seasoning. Stir well.
  6. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  7. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  8. Add the flour and stir for 3 to 4 minutes.
  9. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to keep the sauce smooth.
  10. Simmer for 5 to 8 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  11. Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat.
  12. Add pasta water a little at a time if the sauce needs thinning.

  • Use the reserved pasta water to adjust the sauce texture.
  • Cook the tomato paste long enough to build a deeper flavor.
  • Taste the sauce before serving and adjust salt and pepper.
  • Serve right away for the best texture.
