Spiced Applesauce Bread is a moist, warmly spiced quick bread that’s easy to make with pantry staples. This cozy loaf comes together in just 10 minutes of prep—perfect for breakfast, snack time, or a sweet treat. Bake, slice, and share it today!

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Wet Ingredients:

2 large eggs, at room temperature

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled

1/4 cup sour cream, at room temperature

2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste or extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal, and lightly grease it.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and ginger.
  3. Blend Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, applesauce, sugars, butter, sour cream, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, folding gently until just blended. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
  5. Bake the Bread: Transfer the batter to the prepared pan. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, checking with a toothpick—it should come out with a few soft crumbs.
  6. Cool and Serve: Let the bread rest in the pan on a wire rack for 20 minutes, then lift it out using the parchment and cool completely.

Notes

For extra moisture, cover cooled loaf with a slice of fresh bread overnight—your spiced bread will stay bakery-soft. This recipe freezes beautifully; double it and save a loaf for later!
