Top them with sprinkles for a fun and festive twist!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bars:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons heavy cream (or milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  • Press Dough into Pan: Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  • Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden. Let the bars cool completely in the pan.
  • Prepare Frosting: While the bars cool, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in heavy cream and vanilla. Add food coloring if desired.
  • Frost and Decorate: Once the bars are cooled, spread the frosting on top and add sprinkles. Slice and serve!

Notes

  • For extra clean slices, chill the bars in the fridge for 30 minutes before cutting.
  • You can substitute almond extract for vanilla to give these bars a subtle nutty flavor.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for a week. Unfrosted bars can be frozen for up to 3 months.
