Ingredients
For the Glaze:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
3 to 4 tablespoons whole milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Doughnut Holes:
5 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
1 cup whole milk
1 large egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
-
In a bowl, sift powdered sugar. Stir in 3 tablespoons milk and vanilla until smooth. Add extra milk if needed. Cover and set aside.
-
Fill a deep pot with oil to at least 2 inches. Heat to 350ºF. Line a baking sheet with paper towels.
-
In a small bowl, whisk milk and egg. In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix in the wet ingredients, then melted butter, until a soft dough forms.
-
Drop 1-tablespoon scoops of dough into hot oil. Fry in batches for 2 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden. Drain on the paper towel-lined sheet.
-
While warm, dip doughnut holes into glaze. Place on a rack to let excess drip. Serve immediately.
Notes
For best results, maintain oil temperature at 350ºF.
Use a small scoop for even frying.
Double-dip in glaze if you prefer a thicker coating.
Store unglazed leftovers in the freezer for up to 1 month.
