Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
½ yellow onion, diced
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tsp seasoned salt
8 oz tomato sauce
¼ cup ketchup
1 tbsp yellow mustard
2 cups minute (instant) rice
2 cups beef broth
1 cup cooked bacon, chopped
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Cook beef & onion: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until beef is no longer pink. Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute. Drain excess fat and sprinkle in seasoned salt.
- Incorporate sauces and liquids: Mix in the tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, rice, and beef broth until well combined.
- Let it simmer: Bring to a gentle simmer. Cover and cook for 2–3 minutes, until the rice absorbs most of the liquid.
- Stir in cheese & bacon: Mix in ½ cup cheddar and ½ cup chopped bacon until melted and distributed.
- Finish with toppings: Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheese and ½ cup of chopped bacon over the top. Cover and let it steam for a few minutes to finish melting.
- Serve: Fluff with a spatula and serve hot.
Notes
Use long-grain rice if preferred—adjust liquid and cooking time as needed.
Swap in plant-based meat and broth for a vegetarian version.
For lower sodium, use reduced-sodium broth, ketchup, and less seasoned salt.
