Description

This Crockpot Bourbon-Style Chicken with Chicken Broth is a sweet and savory slow cooker recipe made with tender chicken thighs in a sticky chicken broth. It’s the perfect hands-off dinner that delivers bold flavor with minimal effort.


Ingredients

2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs

Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste

1/3 cup chicken broth or apple juice

3/4 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup soy sauce

2 garlic cloves, minced

2 tbsp cornstarch

3 tbsp cold water


Instructions

  • Season the chicken: Sprinkle both sides of the 2 pounds of chicken thighs with kosher salt and pepper, to taste. Place them evenly in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  • Prepare the sauce: In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1/3 cup of chicken broth (or your preferred alternative), 3/4 cup brown sugar, 3/4 cup soy sauce, and the minced garlic. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  • Add to slow cooker: Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken in the crockpot, making sure each piece is fully covered.
  • Cook: Cover with the lid, then cook:
    • Low setting for 4 hours, or
    • High setting for 3 hours
  • Thicken the sauce: About 30 minutes before the end of the cooking time, whisk 2 tablespoons cornstarch with 3 tablespoons cold water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Stir it into the sauce in the slow cooker to thicken it.
  • Serve and garnish: When the chicken is tender and the sauce has developed a glossy, thick texture, spoon it over rice or noodles. Garnish with sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

You can use  apple juice

Make it spicier by adding red pepper flakes or sriracha.

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
