Ingredients

Scale
  • Cake Base:
    • 3 cups flour
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 4 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 1/2 cups milk
    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • Cinnamon Topping:
    • 1 cup butter, softened
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons flour
    • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • Glaze:
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat and Prep: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch glass baking pan with cooking spray and set aside.
  • Make the Cake Batter: In a stand mixer or mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder. Gradually add milk, eggs, and vanilla. Pour in the melted butter and mix until smooth. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Prepare the Cinnamon Topping: In a separate bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon until creamy. Drop spoonfuls over the cake batter, then use a knife to swirl it through the batter.
  • Bake: Bake for 35-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out mostly clean. Check at the 35-minute mark to prevent overbaking.
  • Add the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cake and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For extra richness, substitute heavy cream for the milk in the glaze.
  • Adding chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts to the topping gives a delightful crunch.
  • This cake freezes well; slice, wrap, and store in an airtight container for up to 3 months
