Description
Chocolate Cherry Pie is a creamy layered dessert made with chocolate pudding, sweet cherry pie filling, whipped topping, and a buttery graham cracker crust. This easy make ahead pie is perfect for holidays, family gatherings, or any special occasion when you want a beautiful and delicious dessert.
Ingredients
8 Honey Maid Honey Grahams, finely crushed
1 quarter cup sugar
1 third cup butter or margarine, melted
1 can 21 oz cherry pie filling, divided
2 packages 3.9 oz each chocolate instant pudding mix
1 1/2 cups milk
2 1/2 cups thawed frozen whipped topping, divided
Instructions
- Heat oven to 375 F.
- In a medium bowl combine graham crumbs, sugar, and melted butter until evenly mixed.
- Press the mixture firmly onto the bottom and up the sides of a 9 inch pie plate to form the crust.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Let the crust cool completely.
- Spread 1 cup of the cherry pie filling evenly over the bottom of the cooled crust.
- In a medium bowl whisk together the chocolate pudding mixes and milk for about 2 minutes until thickened.
- Gently fold in 1 1/2 cups of the whipped topping until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the chocolate pudding mixture evenly over the cherry layer in the crust.
- Spoon the remaining whipped topping around the edge of the pie to create a 1 inch border.
- Fill the center with the remaining cherry pie filling.
- Refrigerate for about 4 hours or until the pie is firm and ready to slice.
Notes
Make sure the crust is fully cooled before adding the filling to prevent the layers from becoming runny.
For cleaner slices, dip your knife in warm water and wipe it between cuts.
The pie can be made the day before serving for easier preparation and better texture.
