2 lbs lean ground beef

1 cup finely chopped yellow onion

1 cup real bacon bits

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 cup ketchup

1/4 cup yellow mustard

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp onion powder

1 tbsp garlic powder

2 cups shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend

24 oz frozen tater tots

Topping:

1 cup shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend

1/4 cup real bacon bits


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high and brown the ground beef with the chopped onion, crumbling the meat as it cooks.
  3. Once browned, drain any excess grease and return the skillet to the heat.
  4. Blend in the bacon bits, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir thoroughly to combine.
  5. Transfer the beef mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it into an even layer.
  6. Sprinkle 2 cups of shredded cheese evenly over the beef.
  7. Lay the tater tots in a single, uniform layer over the cheese.
  8. Bake uncovered for 35 minutes.
  9. Take the dish out of the oven, add the remaining shredded cheese and bacon bits on top.
  10. Return it to the oven for 6–8 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Assemble ahead and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.

For crispier tater tots, broil for the last 2 minutes.

Add diced pickles or tomatoes for extra flavor.
